Another cool video

Space needle
Found this one via Smart Bitches as well. I don't like the song "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye all that much (it's okay, but it's really overplayed). But this a capella group, Pentatonix, gives it a whole new sound and brings new life to it. They sound amazing. There are places where it sounds like they must have musical accompaniment. But I think it's actually all a capella.

The way they use voices in the place of instruments is very interesting. I can imagine paleolithic people around a campfire singing like this, or the survivors of the Dystopia. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I can imagine that too! Would be a fun thing to write about, except I don't think I could write it convincingly. It has to be heard to be believed.

The song sort of fascinates me because the more you listen to it, the more you really don't know what the hell is up with the two people's totally dysfunctional relationship. Was he abusive? Was she bananas? Is one or both of them delusional? Or maybe just really manipulative? It's marvelous.

My guess is he was abusive, or at least scary, because of the line about her sending her friends to pick up her records and then changing her phone number. That's not normal break-up behavior; it suggests he was frightening in some way. Definitely a dysfunctional relationship! I found the lyrics creepier in the original version because it's sung by just the one guy, and his voice is a little whiny. This version tones down the creep factor because it's sung by a group, which includes a woman, and they don't sound whiny.
